• Welcome to Cardiff Council’s Digital Strategy Website

    5 December 2025

We have launched our Digital Strategy for 2025 to 2030.

Our goal is simple: use digital tools to provide better, faster, and more accessible services for you. This website will share updates, news, and ways you can get involved.

What’s happening and how it helps you

Over the next few months, we’ll post regular updates about what we’re doing. We’ll be working on projects that come under our 4 main strategy themes:

    • Citizens and communities
    • Digital council
    • Our workforce
    • Infrastructure and systems

Visit each section of the website to find out our plans for now, next and later.

    Why our digital strategy matters

For citizens and communities, it means quicker, simpler access to council services—whether paying bills, reporting issues, or finding information online—through secure systems that protect your data.

For those who need offline support, we’ll offer face-to-face services at our Hubs and dedicated phone lines. We will also be helping people build digital skills so they can get online confidently if they choose.

For our workforce, it means smarter tools that save time, reduce paperwork, and keep information safe, so employees can focus on delivering great services.

By embracing technology, we’re building a more efficient and inclusive digital council for the whole city.

    Get involved

Your ideas and feedback will help shape these services. Tell us what works and what doesn’t. Together, we can make Cardiff a city where technology benefits everyone. Check back for updates and opportunities to have your say.

  • Better outcomes

A more complete view of citizens and families helps us make better decisions and deliver more joined-up support

  • 5G availability

As of January 2025, 5G covers 86% of the city—bringing faster, more reliable connectivity to homes and businesses.

  • Full fibre coverage

Available in over 80% of premises, with more investment going to underserved areas.

  • Working towards a carbon-neutral council infrastructure

We are committed to making our council’s infrastructure carbon neutral. This means using renewable energy, smart grids, and energy-efficient systems to power our technology. Our goal is to reduce our environmental impact while supporting our community.

  • Planning for better council infrastructure

We are creating a plan for centralised infrastructure services. This includes reviewing options for on-site and external data centres. Our goal is to choose the best setup to support our staff and improve services for everyone.

  • Modernising council technology

We are reviewing the benefits of cloud computing compared to traditional systems. Where it makes sense, we will use the best cloud technology to help our staff work more efficiently and bring new ideas to life. This helps us deliver better services for everyone.

  • Open access ducting

We’ve adopted a “dig once” approach to reduce disruption and allow more internet providers to reach your area.
