Keeping children safe is a top priority for our schools. To support this, Cardiff Council has worked with schools and safeguarding professionals to create a new digital Safeguarding Self-Assessment Tool.
The online tool replaces paper forms and spreadsheets with one simple, secure system. It helps schools review their safeguarding arrangements and complete assessments more quickly and consistently.
Working together
The tool was developed by:
- Education Services,
- Children’s Services,
- school representatives, and
- the Council’s Digital and SharePoint teams.
Schools helped shape and test the system to make sure it is easy to use and meets their needs.
Benefits for schools
The new system provides:
- A secure online platform
- Clear guidance and prompts
- A consistent approach across Cardiff schools
- Less paperwork and administration
- Easier recording and review of safeguarding information
All information is stored securely by Cardiff Council, with access limited to authorised users and appropriate data protection controls in place.
Better information, better support and decisions making
The tool also gives Cardiff Council a clearer picture of safeguarding across schools. This helps teams identify trends, share good practice, spot areas where support may be needed, and produce reports more efficiently.
Looking ahead
The Safeguarding Self-Assessment Tool is a great example of how digital technology can improve services. It makes the process easier for schools, provides better information for decision-making, and supports Cardiff Council’s commitment to modern, secure digital services.
